Ash Friesen
Originally from Canada, IndySystem’s singer and guitarist Ash has been playing live acoustic shows around Geraldton for several years now. He currently plays a regular set on Sunday afternoons at 2 pm, at Conversations by Indigo, among numerous other venues.
His musical career began in Canada with a band called Stiff of whom played a series of shows around southern Alberta. Ash later recorded a solo side project EP under the name Sixfist, of which a couple of the original tracks can be downloaded below:

Ash has since moved to Geraldton Western Australia and formed the band IndySystem, from where IndySystem Music and Media ultimately evolved.

Acoustic Music
Ash’s acoustic set ranges from classic rock covers to blues influenced originals. His music is largely influenced by bands from the Grunge Era, such as Nirvana and Alice and Chains, but also draws from a range of genres including blues based rock such as Led Zeppelin, more modern alternative bands such as Tool and even elements of more Folksy music from the likes of Neil Young and Ben Harper.
Acoustic performances are typically tailored to suit the venue / occasion. They can range from very chilled out lazy Sunday music, to much more upbeat tunes suitable for a night time crowd. Ash has even been known to break out the old ‘stomp box’ on occasion.
Weddings and other Functions
Although more often then not performing at pubs and restaurants, his music has been a hugely popular choice for private occasions such as weddings, staff functions and others. As Ash’s repertoire of music embodies such a wide range, it is easily suitable for dinner music early on in the night, and can get progressively ‘heavier’ as the night goes on.
A big advantage for you is that we are also equipped with PA equipment, music and software suitable for DJ’ing, so that Ash can ‘switch into DJ mode’ later on in the night when required. Additional PA setup is also available should you need additional mic’s for speeches, etc. In other words, you can get live acoustic music for dinner, and then a DJ service for after party, all for as much as what you will often pay for a DJ alone.
Listen for yourself
At the end of the day, it’s probably in your best interest to see a performance for yourself in order to make a decision on it. The best advice is to pop in for a coffee on Sunday afternoon at Conversations by Indigo where you can have a listen. If you are satisfied with the quality of the music, he can always sit and have a chat with you about other details, such as play lists which can be modified to suit your taste. |
